Buddy John Proffitt, 53, wanted to be a police officer ever since he was a teenager, but life had other plans.
Instead of joining the force at a young age, Buddy John got married, started a family and fell into the construction business.
Two years ago, his daughter Jensen joined the police force. He was the one who pinned her badge to her uniform at graduation.
Seeing Jensen live out the dream reignited his own passion for the force and felt it calling him once again. Only this time, he listened and followed.
Buddy John said goodbye to his 35-year career in construction to join his daughter on the Greensboro, North Carolina police force.
He was one of the 40 graduates to take the Police Officer’s Oath — and now it was Jensen’s turn to pin his badge to his brand new uniform.
Despite the fact most rookie cops are between 30 and 39 years old, the 53-year-old couldn’t be happier.
“I think it’s never too late,” Buddy John told WGHP.
