The Oak Street School in Goddard, Kansas is experiencing one serious baby boom! Of the 15 teachers on staff at the Kansas elementary school, seven are pregnant.
It’s the first time anything like it has happened, shocking Principal Ashley Miller, who has been at the school for 20 years. She told Inside Edition, “By the time the seventh one came and told me I believe I leaned across my desk and said, ‘Are you kidding me?’”
Substitute teachers are on deck to take over as these ladies approach their due dates. Since they span from May to October, it won’t cause too much chaos at once. There will be eight new babies joining the Oak Street School family.
One of the expectant moms, fourth-grade teacher Kelli Jo Sheahon, is expecting twins. For another mother, kindergarten teacher Tiffany Schmidt, the news that she was among the women was a complete surprise. Tiffany, already mom to a 7 and 9-year-old, wasn’t planning on another. She explained, “I was so happy everyone else was having babies because I thought I was done and … surprise!
There’s been a lot of good-natured kidding about how the phenomenon could have happened. Principal Miller jokes that it’s been the talk of the town: “Nobody drinks our water anymore and that is the joke throughout the district.”
After getting over the initial shock, the ladies have been ultimately grateful to experience their pregnancies in such a supportive environment. It’s not every day that you have co-workers going that can relate on that level.
