Wow! How times have changed! I’ve still got my authenticator tucked in a drawer somewhere!

The only reason I have a phone is for all these stupid authentication apps and texts.

I’m not sure why we’d want to switch to the phone app, if we already have a physical authenticator and it’s working.

r
you get smartphones for around 50 euros (at least in germany) which are more then enough for such things. while i still hate to see the physical ones get discontinued it’s kind of.. hollow to say someone can not afford a smartphone (capable of running an authenticator app) but can play wow (given they dont use tokens). r
r
Just as a side note: i dont want to offend anyone. i just have to admit that i dont get it D:

I have a physical authenticator for both my accounts – they’re sitting right here in front of me. I’ve been thinking about moving to the phone app but the problem is my mobile is a work phone, and they have the ability to wipe my phone remotely for security reasons (which may or may not have anything to do with something I did on my phone). What happens if I switch to the phone app then loose access to the app? I remember early on when people with iPhones and the phone authenticator had all sorts of issues when Apple released an update to iOS. I’m sure the tech has evolved since then; would SMS be the backup?

SMS Protect (https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/26824) would be the backup, yeah.

If you remove an authenticator you lose the extra bag slots that you got for attaching a authenticator to your account . At least they did that to me a few months ago when I went from authenticator yo SMS. r
I re-attached it and got my bigger backpack slots back. So now I have both I guess.

Whaaaat? This is dumb. Normally I try to see reason, but….this one has none. The phone app is insecure whereas the physical is completely secure. I also enjoy having the physical to keep more crap off of my phone.

And then another $50 a month, every month for the rest of your life in order to use it.

I agree. I don’t even use a smart phone I have a contractor flip phone that is also my work phone. They should make a PC run Auth app. Also, there are some people who just don’t like smart phones or the price of their plans.

What about those of us that have multiple accounts with different email addresses? I bought the physical authenticators because it won’t let me attach my cell phone number to more then one account?

? no?r
r
Are you insane? You can get em here in the UK for u00a350. I bought one JUST to use it for youtube and authenticator. You hook it up to your home internet and you can forget about it. r
r
If you’re paying $50 a month just to have a mobile phone in your house you’re absolutely being scammed by someone somewhere. You should probably not be in charge of your finances, either. This sounds like something a very old, very mentally impaired person would do at the request of a man from India

Solid question… What about people who have different hardware authenticators for multiple accounts? Could you get access to those with 1 mobile app? or are those folks going to have to prepare for the end of their accounts?

This twice over. I’m in the same boat with multiple accounts (me and my kids play – but they don’t have cell phones – yeah yeah only kids in the world who have mean parents that won’t buy them a cell phone).
