Boy Warns About Fallen Tree On Train Tracks

Native New Yorker, University of Virginia graduate, runner, and sometimes stand-up performer.

When it comes down to public safety, we all know that communication is key. We’ve heard it time and time again: “if you see something, say something.”

But how many of us actually take this advice to heart? How many of us bother to go to the authorities when we see something potentially dangerous?

Perhaps we should take a cue from an 11-year-old boy who took this advice to heart. He may not have saved lives, but he’s setting a good example for kids and adults alike.

Jesse DiChiara loves trains, and we was watching them speed by one day when he noticed something unusual on the tracks: it was a fallen tree that a storm had blown over and onto the rails.

Knowing that a train was nearing the station, he rushed home to his grandfather to tell him what he saw. Jesse was convinced that if a commuter train hit the tree, passengers on board could be injured in an accident.

His grandfather drove him back to the station and there they told an employee about the fallen tree. The employee called the conductor of the approaching train to warn him about the danger, and he was able to slow down just in time.

Jesse may not have saved people from certain death, but his entire family is proud of him!
