More early Battle for Azeroth lore:
Reporting to Astranaar
You first need to talk to King Anduin in Stormwind and go to Astranaar on A Disturbance in Ashenvale.
Once you arrive at Astranaar, you will see the Forsaken Forces have overrun the city! Lots and lots of wisps can be seen traversing further north to Darkshore. You’ll then honor fallen soldiers and eliminate Forsaken Assassins on The Light of Elune.
After honoring the dead, you need to find Malfurion Stormrage in Ashenvale on A Soft Glow. Malfurion is in the Twilight Vale, in the border of Darkshore. He has Sylvanas on his roots!
After turning in the quest, Malfurion raises a wall with the help of nearby Wisps, that blocks the Horde’s passage.
Malfurion Stormrage yells: You will come no further, Banshee Queen!
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner yells: Soldiers… No! Do not rush the–!
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner yells: There will be nowhere to run when we next meet, Malfurion!
Malfurion Stormrage says: You may pass through the wall, <player>. The wisps will not harm you.
After passing through the wisp blockade, Malfurion asks you to rally the Alliance forces in Darnassus, on Long Away.
Captain Delaryn Summermoon says: Malfurion! Horde forces have gathered at the Zoram’gar Outpost.
Malfurion Stormrage says: The Banshee Queen seeks to capture the World Tree.
Malfurion Stormrage says: Delaryn, travel to our outposts. Gather every soldier you can find and bring them here.
Malfurion Stormrage says: <player>, I ask that you see to the defense of Darnassus.
Captain Delaryn Summermoon says: And you, Shan’do?
Malfurion Stormrage says: Sylvanas seeks to engage me, and I plan to give her what she wants. Word has been sent to our fleet. Elune willing, they will soon return.
Captain Delaryn Summermoon says: As you command!
Assembling the Darnassian Forces
Arriving in Darnassus, you will see a bulk of Night Elven forces, commanded by Myara Sunsong. She sends the Darnassian forces to various outposts, after interacting with her.
Myara Sunsong says: We must take action! Sentinels, forwards face!
Myara Sunsong says: Fourth Fleet, you are to reinforce the southern border of Darkshore! Bring the Glaive Throwers!
Myara Sunsong says: Fifth Fleet, create a battle line at the Wildbend River! Rouse our allies at the Grove of the Ancients!
Myara Sunsong says: Hippogryph Archers, come with me. We will regroup in Lor’danel and remain vigilant as a mobile response unit!
Myara Sunsong says: That leaves you, hero. Report back to Captain Summermoon and reinforce that border!
Myara Sunsong says: I have something that can help.
That something is Flicka the Fey Dragon, which you will use to ride and get back to the Darkshore border. Flicka is also used in Dragon Attack to destroy the Horde demolishers assaulting the region.
After that, we dispatch the Druids of the Claw and kill frenzied furbolg in Hidden Amongst the Leaves.
Arriving at the Grove of the Ancients, it’s being attacked by a massive Goblin Shredder! You then destroy it in Garden Grove. After that, you research why the Furbolgs are attacking the Night Elves in Enraged Furbolgs. And the reason is, their home is overrun with Horde demolishers! This sent the furbolgs into a frenzy.
After freeing their leaders, Onu, the ancient responsible for the Grove of the Ancients, wants you to discover the source of the disturbances in Ashenvale in The Wake of Something New. This quests sends you to Nazj’vel, a naga settlement that is also overrun with Horde. Arriving there, you’ll find the Horde forces… as well as an Azerite node. Collect some azerite while dispatching of the Horde forces before returning to Oni.
After that, we’re asked to return to Lor’danel with Malfurion and Delaryn in A Looming Threat.
Malfurion Stormrage says: Our fleet has returned from Silithus. Elune be praised! Their might is sorely needed.
Malfurion Stormrage says: King Anduin will send his soldiers to aid us. We must hold our ground until they arrive.
Malfurion Stormrage says: Your deeds will not be forgotten by the Kal’dorei, <player>. The aid you lend in these dark times could make all the difference.
Captain Delaryn Summermoon says: May our will be stronger than their war machines.
Malfurion Stormrage says: A war is not won or lost in a single battle. Our day will come.
The questline seemingly stops after this, although world quests are unlocked in Darkshore.
These world quests currently have no rewards. However, they do give reputation to all Alliance factions. Those world quests are also scaled to 110, which makes us believe that the events leading to the Burning of Teldrassil and the Battle for Lordaeron are all staggered and will be part of the pre-patch for Battle for Azeroth. And the Stockades and Tal Dagor rendezvous will be the first scenario players face once Battle for Azeroth actually arrives.
