Thank you, thank you so much for mentioning a recommendation against burdening a random group with oneu2019s targeted ambitions toward hidden rewards. Itu2019s three person content, it shouldnu2019t be hard to get three reward-ambitious players, but it must be understood that the default understanding among pugs automatically assembled is u201cdoing weekly/leveling, lets win and get out.u201d

Well, not to disagree, but I’m afraid I have to respectfully disagree. I’ve been leveling my warlock through IEs on and off the last couple of weeks and every time before it starts I say “Hey, planning on going after the rares for drops. You all with me?” So far, I haven’t had a person say anything like “No, let’s just get it done fast.” (And, if they do, I’ll adjust my strategy on that run appropriately.)

You say it’s bad to assume what people are in there for, but I read your final statement as you assuming why people are in there, while ignoring the fact that the rewards are a heavily motivating factor. Leveling still goes very quickly when doing a rare farm, as does the IE. And, quite frankly, I wouldn’t be grinding IEs (or not nearly as many of them) while leveling if the potential for rewards wasn’t there.

Again, all due respect, but just talk to your group. You’ll be amazed at how many people are fine with farming the rares and rewards.

In my experience random pugs are leaning more toward the rare-killing side of things than collecting Azerite as fast as possible.r
r
Personally, though, I think they should just find a way to marry the two goals instead of making it “finish as fast as possible, or try to get drops by taking it slow”. Add quests, chests and mining nodes in certain areas to the list of things that can drop items. Like if you open a chest surrounded by Vrykul it should count as a Vrykul rare, as should random Vrykul NPCs, and mining Azerite nodes in a hozen village should count as a hozen rare.

Talk to a group randoms? What madness is this?

My friends and I did some testing.
Once 12k(HC Island) Azerite has been collected by both the horde and alliance.

The 2nd tier of rares spawn.

While doing our weekly.
We leave the Alliance alive and just kill rares and try and keep ourselves around 6-7k Azerite.

Then we burn through the new set of rares and finish island.

Hopefully they lower that number in 8.1.

From what I’ve played, going exclusively for rares is barely any slower.

My PUGs get faster and faster with so many people stuck on AP 28-29, sadly that means no rewards for anyone (not even doublons for me 2/3 of the time).
