This is what happens when children discover one-click shopping!
Six-year-old Katelyn Lunt was a little rock star for her mom Catherine, recently spending an extra day helping out with chores around the house. As a reward, Katelyn was allowed to order a single Barbie on Amazon.
Katelyn was paying careful attention to how the toy was ordered. “She wanted to get on and see when it was going to arrive,” said Catherine. But then Mom left the room and… well, you can guess what happened next.
Catherine didn’t notice anything was wrong until a day or two later while she was checking another order online. Only then did she realize that Katelyn had spent nearly $400 on what the 6-year-old was calling “a Barbie collection.”
“I saw a few items that I didn’t recognize and I was able to cancel them,” said Catherine. “But then, as I kept looking, there were two or three pages of items that had already shipped!”
The images of the mischievous daughter in front of the massive amount of boxes is hilarious enough, but what really makes this story special is how Mom decided to handle the situation. Instead of returning everything to Amazon and getting a refund, Catherine turned it into a teaching moment and took Katelyn to a nearby children’s hospital to donate the “collection.”
All except one doll — the one Katelyn earned for her chores earlier in the week.
