Isn’t it kind of weird to assume that he would be a strategic advisor indefinitely? He is retired and staying on to answer any questions from the new CEO for a couple of months, not for the rest of his life.

I agree with this, that’s why we added a bit at the end saying that strategic advisor sounded like a transitional role. Even if this isn’t a surprise, people will be sad though to have such a recognizable face of the company officially gone.

He didn’t look happy stepping down, and that broke my heart, seeing this just obliterated my soul. RIP Blizzard, Hello Activison, my old nemesis.

So a senior officer of a public company who served it for more than 20 years cant retire in peace? What’s wrong with these people? Already spamming everything with “RIP BLIZZARD”.

Not happy to see this happen. I hope Blizzard still manages to do well.

This is a company. Exec positions swap a lot. Suprised Mike stayed so long. Let the man retire and enjoy his savings. If he’s like any of my other CEO’s at the company I’ve worked at, he’ll either come back or start his own company.

One more time and the company may surly discontinue.

Sad news, Iam hoping in the future we don’t get the dreaded headline nobody wants “Blizzard Entertainment after (whatever years) of service to the gaming community creating amazing games closes down”ufeff . I remain optimistic despite Blizzard not being the Blizzard it once was since Activision has been taking more and more control with how these game go.

Afrasiabi and Kaplan are still on it. Also I remember not liking morhaime since vanila for monetizing the ingame services.

Guys this is a normal business practice and nothing to be freaking out about. He was there as a temporary advisor to help the new person get comfortable and he will then fully retire.

Cushioned position? They may get a big paycheck, but their positions are far from cushioned. Companies will also make a change when things aren’t good in order to make them better.
