Heather Clare was at a playground in Long Island with her 12-month-old twins who had just taken their first steps. The proud mom took one of the girls, Meadow, down the plastic slide — and that’s when disaster struck.
Heather’s husband snapped a photo of his happy wife holding their daughter on her lap as they both slid down. But as you’ll see below, the picture captured the very moment Meadow’s foot was bent backward. Unbeknownst to Heather and her husband, Meadow’s foot had become lodged between Heather’s leg and the slide.
Meadow had a fractured tibia and fibula in her right leg and spent four weeks in a cast. It wasn’t until the horrified parents saw the ER doctor that they learned just how common this type of injury is.
Now Heather is sharing the frightening photo on social media to warn other parents. It went viral with tens of thousands of likes and comments.
“I share this picture every year in hopes that the pain Meadow felt and the guilt that I still feel will save other babies and parents from the same,” Heather wrote on Facebook. “Don’t ever go down a slide with a baby on your lap. There is no SAFE way to go down a slide with your little.”
