PUBG 2018 roadmap confirms new 4x4km map and emote system

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Bluehole has lifted the wraps off its extensive 2018 roadmap for the battle royale title, confirming a new 4x4km island map will be made available next month.

The new map will be rolled out to PUBG’s experimental test servers so that Bluehole is able to hoover up as much user feedback as possible, allowing them to further tweak the map where necessary. According to the team, the new area includes a greater player density and therefore features shorter matches.

In addition to the new map, Bluehole is also tinkering away on PUBG’s emote system, which will hit the test servers ‘very soon.’ New game modes and vehicles are also in the pipeline, though the studio said it’s not quite ready to spills the beans on those just yet.

Other additions to the game include general sound, stability, and security improvements, as well as beefing up the Custom Games feature. Bluehole’s also determined to make its mark in the eSports category, although admitted there’s still more work to do to accomplish this.

Speaking of updates, the Xbox One version of the every-man-for-himself shooter recently got patched with a bunch of key improvements, although a new map wasn’t part of the package.

PUBG recently surpassed the 30 million global sales milestone, although it appears that active users are on the decline.
