It’s amazing how much history a character with a non-unique (or not very unique-looking) model can have and I just never seem to notice. I figured she was brand new in Legion.

Until the Banshee Queen pulled me back from beyond and damned my soul into her service.r
r
This is disturbing… Once again Sylvanus (which never done it until BFA) is forcing someone at her service. For what i get from W3 and the lore i read the dark ranger were Belfs that were killed by the Scourge and were freed by Sylvanus (they were the other banshees on w3)…. maybe im just old and dont recall thing too well or this is another retcon….

I wonder if all the classes will get some continuation of their order hall like this.

This is a misinterpretation on WoWhead’s end. This isn’t referring to anything about Sylvanas in the last few years. Velonara was killed and raised during the Fall of Quel’thalas. After Sylvanas was raised by Arthas as the first high elven Banshee, she was forced to raise others of her female rangers into them as well, which is why we got the unit during the WC3 undead campaign. This is merely referring to that, not anything newly sinister on Sylvanas’ part.

Perhaps worthy of consideration is that events don’t change, but perspectives might.

Velonora dies in battle, rests as the dead sometimes do in WoW, and then Sylvanas binds her back to serve again. Velonora sees this as a chance to avenge herself and the Queldorei and boldly goes forth. IMO it’s reasonable that after a time -WoD likely wasn’t a brief period of time given the size of the Draenor and the scope of the threat presented by the Iron Horde- Velonora felt her mission completed and by Legion wishes she were dead again. A former Ranger might keep her faith in the Ranger-General but modern Sylvanas is apparently a wee bit different.

Consider Nathanos, for example, who went from a human woodsman so uniquely talented that the High Elves agreed to train him as one of their own to a gooey ghoul offering quests in EPL to kill High Elves for remembering him when he was a hero.

It’s not clear what “damned my soul” is supposed to mean. It’s not unreasonable that as a High Elf Velonara was a follower of whatever the Queldorei called their church of the Light and thus considers undeath a state of horrifying aberration. That’s very classically Elven to be disgusted by the unnatural and to be raised as one would be the height of humiliation.

We also know it’s not an entirely philosophical point. Much of the Death Knight lore emphasizes how being a DK is a state of constant physical suffering (as well as general misery) relieved only by distractions like wildly slaughtering foes and abusing neophytes. If Dark Rangers are a similar kind of analog then Velonara’s experience of being “a dead, rotting thing” isn’t just being a disgusting drippy corpse it’s physical anguish as well.

Sylvanas attempted, with Hel’s help, to “hack” into the stream of worthy dead attempting to impress Odyn to enslave them as a new corps of Val’kyr. I’m gonna guess her quest to find a way to mass-create more Forsaken goes at least back to Cataclysm. Repeatedly it’s demonstrated that Sylvanas’ loyalty is to Sylvanas; she is literally called “The Banshee Queen,” and while the apparent enthusiasm of the Forsaken to obey her muddles the question of if they have a choice the very small number of defectors (zero, I’m pretty sure) suggests that ultimately they don’t. Velonara clearly doesn’t think so.

Although reflecting on her title the punchline might be that Sylvanas being called “the Banshee Queen” isn’t quite as metaphorical as I might think. Perhaps she can literally only raise Queldorei dead. She doesn’t create Forsaken however it is that she commands them. She does have banshee under her command and can “enslave” Dark Rangers (and create them, I’m sure) but is on a constant quest to replenish her human dead. And now she can reanimate dead Kaldorei into Dark Rangers.

I’m guessing Dark Ranger is how she spells what Arthas calls a “death knight.” Makes sense, both Ranger and Knight are an elevated social status not a literal object. Hmm.

I’m glad hunters are getting all kinds of cool stuff and all, but why is it ONLY hunters getting cool stuff?r

Why did we take a 180 on class fantasy the moment legion ended?

Pepe might not make more appearances, the artist who created Pepe essentially has creative rights over it and was just laid off in the recent layoffs, so Blizzard would have to provide compensation to use her work in their game again.

Amusingly all because Blizz wanted playable Gnomes.r
r
I’d have gladly have traded Gnomes for getting to /spit on Sylvanas’ corpse as I looted it for transmogs.

Because BfA is WoW 2, or the closest thing Blizz could manage without losing all the money.

Yeah , conveniently leaving the enslaving of the orcs out of it and conflating the fel Horde with the Horde……why am I not surprised? Wait , did they retconned that , too?

Forget the Legion meddling with all the factions of the Horde…..scratch that.Sylvanas suddenly raised from the dead , given powers to create Forsaken , enslaved the Blood Elves , Darkspear Trolls , Taurens and Orcs , made a pact with the Goblins to bring the world to its knees , trick the HMT , promise part of the power to the Zandalari Trolls & Nightborne and there we have it , the Horde!

Essential to the myth a fascist nation constructs is ignorance of it’s own history and an insistence that it was always tricked by a nefarious outsider. A fascist nation always find the enemy without because the leader tells it it is possessed of an impossible innocence the tainted outside world resents.r
r
And thus the answer is war. Always war. War for resources, war for land, war against the hateful and ignorant, war instead of clan life, war instead of farming, war instead of trade.r
r
That is literally the Horde.r
r
But I can’t put that on you, you’re too innocent to believe anything else.

Dude , thats what the Legion did.You completely erase that the very same horde you so much like to call fascist saved Azeroth from Legion TOGETHER with Human,Night elves & Dwarfs. You completely forget that during BC & WoTLK both factions worked together.Stop playing “Alliance victim , hurr durr , Horde evil”.
