Woman Stands Outside With Sign Offering Hugs To Grieving Moms

Lindsey is from Florida and has worked in online and print media. Her happy place is Michaels craft store.

On February 13, 2018, René Couret stood outdoors in only a sweater and leggings holding up a simple, homemade sign.

She wasn’t asking for money or protesting something. Instead, she was offering free hugs and manicures to other grieving moms who have lost a child.

“It was the most exciting moment of my life, finding out that I was going to be a mom,” René told Fox 46.

Sadly, her infant son Gregory Zion Couret passed away. “They did find out it was CDH. CDH stands for congenital diaphragmatic hernia,” she explained. “Thinking of the fact that he is a teenager now or maybe on special occasions, it feels really terrible to not have your child.”

However, René was so grateful for the time she was able to spend with her son. To honor his memory and to help other parents, René wanted to do something uplifting on the anniversary of his death. She knew that being positive would be the best thing for her on such a sad day.

“Why don’t I do something to honor him that will also maybe give other women who have lost babies some TLC,” she said. “I know that it’s uncomfortable because you don’t know what to say a lot, but sometimes fewer words are better.”
